Quiet games,
loud opinions

We play free simulation and management games on Android ourselves, then write down what a first hour actually feels like. Eight picks below — every one of them costs nothing to install.

  • Hands-on play, not press copy
  • Scores kept apart from advertising

Our method

Why this desk is worth your time

Four rules keep the shortlist honest. They are the same rules for every title, whether the studio has ever heard of us or not.

We install first

Every title on this page is downloaded on our own Android handsets and played for at least an hour before a single line is written.

Small studios only

We skip the chart toppers on purpose. The shortlist is built from quieter releases that rarely reach a front page.

Time cost stated

We say plainly how long a session runs and whether the game keeps working while your screen is off.

Scores stay independent

Advertising pays our hosting, never our ratings. Promoted links are marked as promoted, and the score is written before any of that.

The shortlist

Eight free sims we kept playing

Farming, rail yards, kitchens, gardens, tiny cities, harbours, plant pots and animal care. All free to install from Google Play, all tested this season.

Farm Manager - 2026

Xombat Development

4.7 on Google Play

  • Farming
  • Management

A patient fields-and-machinery manager: buy plots, plan what goes in the ground and grow one shed into a working agri-business. Progress ticks along in short sessions, and the vehicle collection is the long goal that pulls you back.

Train and rail yard simulator

3dinteger

4.3 on Google Play

  • Rail
  • Driving sim

A cab-view rail sim built around shunting work: couple wagons, read the signals, hold the limit. Controls are deliberately unhurried, and the open yard gives you space to practise a route until it feels smooth.

Cookingdom

ABI GAMES PTE. LTD.

4.3 on Google Play

  • Cooking
  • Puzzle

A cozy kitchen puzzler where each level is one recipe: roll, slice, plate, serve. Finished dishes fill a growing cookbook, and nothing is on a timer, so it works as a two-minute break.

Garden & Home: Design Game

Narcade

4.6 on Google Play

  • Decor
  • Tile puzzle

Half outdoor-design sim, half tile puzzle. Clear a board, earn coins, then spend them on flowerbeds, paving and garden furniture. The renovation shots are the reward, and they are genuinely pretty.

Victorian City Builder Idle

Joch

4.7 on Google Play

  • City building
  • Idle

A numbers-first city builder set in a nineteenth-century town. You line up production chains, watch resources tick over and keep residents supplied. It runs happily in the background and rewards a tidy plan.

Idle Fish 2: Fishing Tycoon

MULTICAST GAMES

4.4 on Google Play

  • Harbour
  • Idle

An idle harbour sim with a friendly cartoon coastline: send boats out, upgrade the gear and turn one small pier into a busy port. Everything keeps earning while the app is closed, which suits a commute.

Pocket Plants screenshot showing a grid of cartoon plants being grown

Pocket Plants: Grow Plant Game

Shikudo - Walking and Focus Games

4.4 on Google Play

  • Growing
  • Merge

Grow tiny plants, then merge pairs into new species. The studio ties in-game energy to your real step count, so a walk around the block quietly refills the greenhouse. A gentle collection loop with a healthy twist.

Jungle Animal Kids Care Games

Pazu Games

4.3 on Google Play

  • Animal care
  • Family

A soft animal-care sim aimed at younger players: wash, feed and groom jungle friends across a set of mini-games. There are no timers and no fail states, which makes it easy to hand over the phone on a long drive.

What people tell us

Notes sent to the desk by readers across Canada. Names are used with permission; we do not publish reader photos.

“I ride the metro twice a day and wanted something calm for those twenty minutes. Two of the sims from your list have stayed on my phone for a whole season now.”

Marianne Leclair

Commuter, Montréal

“Most round-ups just repeat the store blurb. You actually mention how long a session takes and whether the thing keeps running with the screen off. That is the part I care about.”

Devon Achebe

Weekend sim fan, Calgary

“I hand my phone to a seven-year-old on long drives, so the family picks matter to me. Knowing what a game asks for before installing saves a lot of back-and-forth.”

Parent of two, Vancouver

Questions we get

Yes. Reading SimulationsWatch costs nothing, there is no account to create and no paywall. We never ask readers for payment.

Through advertising. Studios can pay to promote a title with a link to its Google Play page, and we also earn from advertising placed around our recommendations of free-to-play games that themselves run in-app ads.

Promoted links are labelled. Ratings are written before any commercial conversation and are never changed because of one. The full statement is in our terms.

Every title listed here was priced at zero on Google Play at the time we checked it. Most include optional in-app purchases and in-app advertising, which is how the studios are paid — we say so in the review whenever it shapes the experience.

We search Google Play away from the top charts, install anything that looks promising, and keep only titles that are still enjoyable after an hour. We favour smaller studios and calm genres: farming, rail, cooking, decor, growing, tidy management.

How this site is funded

You are not the product and there is nothing to buy here. Here is exactly where the money comes from.

  • Promoted placements. A studio can pay to have a title promoted with a link to its Google Play page. Those links carry a visible label.
  • Advertising around our picks. The free-to-play games we recommend earn from in-app advertising, and we earn from advertising shown alongside our recommendations.
  • What money cannot buy. A score, a place on the shortlist, or the removal of a criticism. Editorial judgement is written first and stays as written.
  • No affiliation. We are not connected with Google, with Google Play, or with any of the studios featured on this page.

About us

A small desk with a long install list

SimulationsWatch started in 2026 as a shared note among four friends in Canada who kept sending each other free Android sims that nobody was writing about. The note grew, the install list grew with it, and eventually it needed a home of its own.

We are not a studio, a publisher or a store. We install games, play them properly, and describe what an ordinary evening with them feels like — the pace, the interruptions, the part that keeps you coming back. If a title stops being enjoyable, it comes off the shortlist, whatever the download figures say.

Questions, corrections or a game you think we have missed? Write to [email protected] — every message is read by a person.
