Cookie notice
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that a site asks your browser to store. It lets the site recognise your browser on the next page or the next visit. Similar technologies — local storage, pixels and software development kits such as the one used for browser notifications — do much the same job, and this notice covers them all.
Categories we use
Strictly necessary
Needed for the site to work and to remember the choice you make in the cookie panel. These are set without consent because the site cannot be delivered without them.
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
| sw-cookie-choice | Stores whether you accepted or declined non-essential cookies, so the panel is not shown again | Until you clear your browser storage |
| Hosting and security cookies | Load balancing and protection against abusive traffic | Session up to 12 months |
Audience measurement
Set only if you accept. They tell us how many people read a review and which sections are used, in aggregate. We do not use them to identify you personally.
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
| Analytics identifier | Distinguishes one browser from another so visits are not counted twice | Up to 13 months |
| Session counter | Measures the length of a single visit | 30 minutes |
Advertising and marketing
Set only if you accept. Advertising is what pays for this site, as explained in our terms. These technologies limit how often the same promotion is shown and measure whether a campaign worked. This category also covers our sign-up and notification service.
| Name or provider | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
| Advertising network identifiers | Frequency capping and campaign measurement | Up to 13 months |
| OneSignal, Inc. — push subscription | Stores the browser notification identifier and the tags sent with your sign-up (domain, first name, phone, source) so we can send the shortlist | Until you withdraw consent or turn notifications off |
| OneSignal, Inc. — service worker storage | Local storage used by the notification worker file in the site root | Until you clear your browser storage |
How the data behind the sign-up form and browser notifications is handled — including transfer outside Canada — is described in the privacy notice.
Your choice and how to change it
When you first arrive, a panel asks you to accept or decline non-essential cookies. Your answer is stored locally in your browser. To change it, clear this site's storage in your browser settings and reload the page — the panel will appear again.
You can also manage cookies directly in your browser: Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge all allow you to view, delete and refuse cookies per site. Refusing analytics or advertising cookies does not stop you reading anything on this site; some measurement will simply be missing.
Browser notifications are separate from cookies. Allow or refuse them in the browser prompt, and change your mind at any time in your browser's site settings for simulationswatch.com.
